GERT SIBANDE FET COLLEGE HAS A HIGHLY COMPETENT STUDENT SUPPORT TEAM AT CENTRAL OFFICE AND CAMPUSES. THESE
ARE THE MOST COMMON ROLES OF STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES.
Roles of Student Support Services
Assist students with the choice of career paths as well as with study methods
- Help students with personal and academic counselling
- Monitor students academic performance and give proper guidance
- Screen learners for admission and help with course selection
- Invite companies to make presentations on career matters
Give support to students in developing
critical job-hunting skills
- Train students in job hunting skills
- Contact potential employers for placements
- Keep track of students who are out of the system and check their progress
Ensure participation of students in Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture
- Ensure participation of students in Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture
- Encourage inclusive participation in new codes
- Bring a new codes in the Campus
- Establish partnerships so that we have access to fields and infrastructure
- Organize practices and participations in the various codes
Identify qualifying students for bursaries
and also assist in getting bursaries
- Identify students who qualify for a bursary
- Endeavor to get more bursaries for our students
- Ensure that all recipients comply with the bursary policies (see Criteria below)
Ensure effective student governance
- That SRC meets once a week with Campus Manager
- That SRC plans and budgets for activities in time
- That induction for all new SRC Members is done
- That SRC is involved in student matters
Teaching of Life Skills
- Prepare and facilitate the teaching of Life Skills
- HIV/AIDS
Do Marketing & Road Shows for the College
- Forward exciting news to Central Office Communication Desk
- Participate career exhibitions, school visits, talk shows and road shows
