It is with gratitude to disclose that the college has
successfully launched a partnership with Right to Care.
Aims of the partnership

Sustain College awareness campaigns about HIV and AIDS
Celebrate victories and successes on HIV and AIDS
What is VCT?
VCT refers to a process of giving people professional counselling before and
after the HIV test and this process is referred to as Pre and Post Test
Counselling. The process help people prepare for and understand their test
results. Those who test HIV negative can learn ways to avoid becoming
infected and those who are HIV positive can learn to live longer, healthier
lives and prevent transmission to others, there fore, VCT offers and important
entry point to early prevention, care and treatment.
Information sessions prior to tasting are critical because it is important for
testing to be undertaken with informed consent and be completely voluntary
and the results are absolutely confidential.
Conducting VCT on site
STEP 1:
A 20-30 minute Group Information Session is conducted.
The importance of knowing your status, what VCT is all about and
Treatment options (including antiretroviral therapy) for people who
test positive.
STEP 2:
Individual pre-test counselling is conducted by nurse counsellors
onsite. A mobile VCT bus is available for use provided there is
parking space available.
STEP 3:
Informed consent- individuals decide if they are ready to take the
test or not. To do so they will be required to sign a consent form
before proceeding.
STEP 4:
Testing is done with a rapid test kit and the results are available
within 10 minutes.
STEP 5:
Post-test counselling is conducted after giving the individual
his/her results and necessary referrals for follow-ups may be
made.
I hope these services have come to the college at the right time and will be
fully exploited to help fight the pandemic.
